2008 14th January 2008 the exhibition of literature "Recent
acquisitions to the Library on Sustainable Development" starts working. The
exhibition is held from 14 to 31 January 2008. The exhibition is free of charge.
The exhibition hours are from 9 am to 5.30 pm. Our address is Information Centre,
Room 607, RLST, 7 Pobediteley Ave., Minsk. Telephone: 306-20-74. At the exhibition
visitors can acquaint with the literature, which has been received by the library
for a few last months. Documents collection covers environmental, economical and
social problems such as national resources protection and their rational use,
Chernobyl post-accident management, environmental safety and population protection,
quality improvement of ecological management, wastes management, social protection
of unemployed, eco-tourism development. There are more than 100 publications,
many of which are received from UN Representative in Belarus, French-Belarusian
Information Hall, the Program of Belarus support by the Federal Government of
Germany, public organizations. Work schedule on sustainable development for

Arrangement and holding of scientific and practical conference
"Education for Sustainable Development". Arrangement and holding
of scientific and practical conference "Water for Life". Arrangement
and holding of scientific and practical conference "Potato is the second
bread" Arrangement of scientific cafes on sustainable development in accordance
with UNDP. Arrangement of literature exhibitions on sustainable development. Preparation
and delivering literature sets to the corners of sustainable development, made
agreements with RLST. Forming the group of the number of heads and employees
of the corners on sustainable development from Belarus regions for training in
the Internet Centre of RLST. Recent accessions to the library on sustainable
development.
• June 12
Republic Scientific Technical Library, Support Program for Belarus of German Federal Government, and Living Partnership International Humanitarian Foundation, co-organize a meeting of an academic cafe dedicated to sustainable development. The title of the meeting is Ecological Certification of Educational and Social Institutions and Churches in Belarus: Reality and Prospects.
The meeting Ecological Certification of Educational, Social, and Ecclesiastical Institutions in Belarus: Reality and Prospects will be part of the IIIrd International Exhibition entitled, "Person and Security." Active members of sustainable development movement in Belarus, employees of UNDP Belarus, Ecology center, members of Ecoproject Partnership Organization and Living Partnership are expected to take part in the event.
The participants of the meeting will present their reports:
"Information Support Provided by RLST for Ecological Certification Procedure," by Tatiana Guseva, head of the RLST Library Marketing Department;
Update on the Project, "Developing a Uniform System of Ecological Certification for Social and Educational Institutions, and Churches of Belarus," by Oleg Sivograkov, executive director of the Living Partnership Foundation;
"Belarusian System of Ecological Certification; German Experience," by Evgeny Zhdankin, head of Ecological Certification and Audit Department of Ecology Center.
The participants will discuss the issues of ecological certification and share their experience.

The Information Center of the Republic Scientific Technical Library features a new exposition entitled, "Local Agenda and Youth Movement for Sustainable Development," which introduces materials from the collection of the Sustainable Development Library to mark the International Youth Day celebrated yearly on August 12. The International Youth Day was designated by the United Nations on December 17, 1999 at the suggestion of the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth, which took place in Lisbon in August 1998.
The exhibition features books and periodicals from the Sustainable Development Library's collection such as UN Bulletin, Belarusian National Sustainable Social and Economic Development Strategy for the Period until 2020, reports and international conferences' materials, books entitled, "Belarusian Youth on the Threshold of the 3rd Millennium," "Partnership for Sustainable Development of Local Communities: Experience, Opportunities, Prospects," "Social Work with Youth," and other.
• September 8 – 30 2008
A thematic exhibition entitled, "World and Security" will take place in the Information Center of the Republic Scientific Technical Library to feature the materials from the collection of the Sustainable Development Library. Established by UN General Assembly in 1982, International Day of Peace is marked every year on September 21. The main purpose of the holiday is to advocate peace and to eliminate tension and armed conflicts. This day is to remind everyone that we all must aim at peace and thrift of ideals of good and brotherhood in the world.
Among the editions represented are: documents, which regulate the right to peace in the world, issues of UN Chronicle for the period from 2002 to 2007, "Belarusian Magazine on International Law and Relations," "UN Bulletin," UN annual reports for the years 2004 and 2005, and many other interesting editions.
• October 7 – 30, 2008
A thematic exhibition entitled, "UN – the Hope of Humanity" opened in Republic Scientific Technical Library. The exhibition features materials from the collection of the Sustainable Development Library and is dedicated to the United Nations Day.
United Nations Organization was officially founded on October 24, 1945 upon ratification of the UN Charter by China, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, the United States, France, and the majority of the other signatories. In 1971, UN General Assembly adopted a resolution, in which recommended that Member States observe the UN Day as a public holiday. Observing this holiday reminds all of us that the Earth is our home and general dialogue and collaboration may help solve the existing problems. This day has traditionally been marked throughout the world by meetings, discussions and exhibits on the achievements and goals of the Organization.
Our exhibition features about 115 copies of books, many of which were received from UN Office in Belarus, Franco-Belarusian Department, Support Program for Belarus of German Federal Government, and nongovernmental organizations. Books, brochures, and magazines, which cover UN achievements and cooperation in the world and, in particular, Belarus, are available at the exhibition and in the Sustainable Development Library. All interested are welcome to visit the exhibition.

• November 3 – 27, 2008
On June 14, 2007 the Presidential Decree no. 3, "Economy is a Main Factor of Economic Safety of the State," was signed. In support of implementation of the Decree the Information Center of the Republic Scientific Technical Library, as part of its permanent exhibition entitled, "Economy and Thrift as Factors of Economic Development of State" represents an exposition called, "New Technologies of Energy Saving" from November 3 to 27, 2008. The exposition features books and periodicals from the collections of RLST and the Sustainable Development Library. Location: Minsk, Pobediteley ave., 7, Room 607. Analyzing modern trends of the world politics and economics allow to resume that a new energy order is being formed in the world. Among such trends, there are, first of all, the growth of energy consumption and energy market globalization, which means transition to the single world market of energy resources. We have tried to cover as much as possible the subject of innovations in energy and have presented the following publications: magazines In the World of Science, Energy Saving, Power Efficiency, Industrial Energy; online magazine of the US State Department Economic Prospects. Energy Supply Problems; books Managing Energy Saving Innovations, Global Energy in Industry, Fire-Wood as an Alternative to Traditional Energy Sources. An exhibition titled, "We are Together" dedicated to the International Human Solidarity Day opened in the Information Center of the Republic Scientific Technical Library. Admission free. The International Human Solidarity Day was established by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 2005 in its resolution dedicated to the first decade of the fight against poverty. It has been marked yearly on December 20 since 2006.
Solidarity is the unity of convictions and actions, mutual aid and support of members of social community based upon commonness of interests and aims. US resolution says that in XXI century solidarity will be one of the fundamental values of the human kind.
The exhibition features over 80 copies of magazines, books, leaflets, international conferences' papers in Russian, Belarusian, English, German, and French languages from the collection of the Sustainable Development Library.
Many of the editions were provided by UN Development Program in Belarus, Franco-Belarusian Hall, Support Program for Belarus of German Federal Government, and nongovernmental organizations.
